Period 26 Review: INTR Soars +40% as All Three Active Screens Beat the Market

Magic Formula leads the journal for a second straight period at +2.57%, with ten of twelve names rising as its metals holdings join the tankers. Lynch adds +1.48% on RELY's +10.84%, despite SKHY's −13.38%. CANSLIM Rocket gains +1.33%, and INTR's +40.15% contributes more than the screen's entire return while LRCX, INOD, and CLS fall. All three active screens beat both the S&P 500 and the NASDAQ. Burry Value Screen, Schloss Dividend, Piotroski F-Score, and Quality Growth held no positions all period and again returned no qualifying names, so their values are unchanged, though each lost ground to the rising benchmarks.

Period 26 covers October 3 to October 10, 2026, a period in which both benchmarks rose: the S&P 500 gained +1.15% and the NASDAQ +0.64%. Only three of the journal's seven screens held any stocks, and all three closed positive and ahead of both indexes: Magic Formula at +2.57%, Lynch at +1.48%, and CANSLIM Rocket at +1.33%. Burry Value Screen, Schloss Dividend, Piotroski F-Score, and Quality Growth began the period with no positions, after their full exit at the October 3 snapshot, and returned no qualifying names again on October 10, so they post no return at all. Among the active screens, the spread between best and worst narrowed to 1.24 percentage points from Period 25's 2.53.

The period's story was one stock. INTR rose +40.15% in a single week, and its contribution alone was larger than CANSLIM Rocket's entire result. Without it, the screen would have posted a loss on a week when LRCX, INOD, and CLS all fell hard. Elsewhere the gains were broader. Magic Formula's metals names, which dragged on it a week earlier, joined the tankers in rising, and Lynch shrugged off SKHY's −13.38% with eleven winners out of sixteen.

Period 26 Returns: Magic Formula Leads Again

Magic Formula led the journal for a second straight period at +2.57%, edging up from its +2.43% in Period 25. Lynch followed at +1.48%, its best result since Period 19, and CANSLIM Rocket added +1.33%. The four screens with no holdings show no return for the period, and their portfolio values are unchanged.

Strategy Period 26 Return Period 25 Return
S6 · Magic Formula +2.57% +2.43%
S3 · Lynch +1.48% −0.09%
S8 · CANSLIM Rocket +1.33% +0.58%
S1 · Burry Value Screen — −0.10%
S2 · Schloss Dividend — −0.10%
S7 · Piotroski F-Score — −0.10%
S9 · Quality Growth — −0.10%

Magic Formula's +2.57% came from nearly the whole book. Ten of its twelve positions closed positive. CGAU led, rising +5.18% from $21.43 to $22.54 and contributing approximately +0.43 percentage points at the screen's 8.33% weight, which reversed its −5.01% from Period 25. HAFN gained +4.59% (+0.38 points), DHT +4.05% (+0.34 points), INSW +3.46% (+0.29 points), BVN +3.41% (+0.28 points), and CENX +3.20% (+0.27 points), after CENX was the screen's largest drag a week earlier. TNK added +2.95% (+0.25 points), DRD +2.35% (+0.20 points), OGC +1.81% (+0.15 points), and FHI +0.80%. Only two names fell: ERO slipped −0.79% (−0.07 points), and TRMD, the screen's top performer in Period 25 at +16.55%, held almost flat at −0.15%. Magic Formula had no exits and no entrants, so it carries the same twelve names into Period 27. The result lifts its cumulative return to +6.16% from +3.50%, closing to within 0.93 points of Burry Value Screen in fourth.

After two periods of the tanker names deciding Magic Formula's result in both directions, this week's gain came from both sides of the screen at once: the shipping names and the metals names rose together.

Lynch's +1.48% came from a wide base of winners with one heavy loser. RELY led, rising +10.84% from $21.77 to $24.13 and contributing approximately +0.68 percentage points at the screen's 6.25% weight. PDD gained +7.92% (+0.50 points) after two straight declines. ADMA added +6.58% (+0.41 points), BZ +6.07% (+0.38 points) for a second straight gain, SKWD +6.02% (+0.38 points), and PLMR +3.38% (+0.21 points). ATAT, OGC, PAAS, HRMY, and PLGO added smaller gains. Against these, SKHY fell −13.38% from $195.13 to $169.03, costing approximately −0.84 points, the largest single drag on any screen this period. MU, in its first period with Lynch after leaving CANSLIM Rocket, declined −4.27% (−0.27 points). CVE gave back −3.12% (−0.20 points), FSM fell −2.93% (−0.18 points), and KSPI slipped −1.13%. Eleven of sixteen positions closed positive. Lynch had no exits and no entrants and holds sixteen names for Period 27. The result lifts its cumulative return to +3.07% from +1.57%.

CANSLIM Rocket's +1.33% rested almost entirely on INTR, which surged +40.15% from $5.48 to $7.68. At the screen's 5% weight it contributed approximately +2.01 percentage points, the largest single-position gain and the largest single contribution of the period on any screen, and it followed INTR's +7.24% in Period 25. ARQT rebounded +5.64% (+0.28 points), ANET gained +4.53% (+0.23 points), LLY +3.19% (+0.16 points), and GLBE +2.75% (+0.14 points). The chip and hardware names that had carried the screen in recent weeks mostly fell. INOD declined −11.46% (−0.57 points), the screen's largest drag. LRCX fell −8.24% (−0.41 points) after two straight gains of more than 9%. CLS declined −6.50% (−0.33 points), MPWR −3.71% (−0.19 points), BE −2.99% (−0.15 points), and NVDA −2.00% (−0.10 points). Excluding INTR, the screen's other nineteen positions together would have produced a loss of roughly −0.68%. Eleven of nineteen retained positions closed positive. JBL, a new entrant for this period, added +0.61%. ROAD, the other entrant, dropped off at the October 10 snapshot and is booked as exited at the sell fee. PAY enters for Period 27, holding CANSLIM Rocket at twenty names. The result lifts the screen's cumulative return to +16.82% from +15.29%, keeping it in second.

Burry Value Screen, Schloss Dividend, Piotroski F-Score, and Quality Growth held no positions through Period 26. They exited their full lineups at the October 3 snapshot, and the October 10 run again returned no qualifying names for any of the four. With nothing held, there was nothing to gain, lose, or pay fees on, so their portfolio values are exactly where Period 25 left them. All four enter Period 27 still empty.

Retention: Steady Lineups on the Active Screens

All three active screens kept their lineups almost intact. Magic Formula improved to a perfect 100% from Period 25's 92.3%, and Lynch held at 100% for a second straight period. CANSLIM Rocket improved to 95.0% from 90.0%, with ROAD its only exit. The four empty screens had no positions to retain, so they have no retention rate for the period.

Turnover across the whole journal came to one exit and one entrant, both on CANSLIM Rocket: ROAD out and PAY in. PAY was among the forty-three names Burry Value Screen exited at the October 3 snapshot. It returns to the journal a week later through a very different screen. Among the active screens, the retention spread narrows to 5 points.

Cumulative Scoreboard: Order Holds, Gaps Shrink

The cumulative ranking did not change, but the active screens closed in on the screens ahead of them. CANSLIM Rocket's +1.33% lifted it to +16.82% from +15.29%, cutting Quality Growth's lead to 10.20 points from 11.73. Magic Formula rose to +6.16% from +3.50% and now trails Burry Value Screen by 0.93 points, down from 3.59. Lynch rose to +3.07% from +1.57%, 3.09 points behind Magic Formula. Quality Growth, Schloss Dividend, Burry Value Screen, and Piotroski F-Score are unchanged.

Benchmark · S&P 500 $11,518.93 +15.19%
Benchmark · NASDAQ $12,057.12 +20.57%

Magic Formula has gained 5.11 points in two periods, and its gap to Burry Value Screen is down to 0.93 points from 3.59 a week ago. Burry Value Screen has no holdings and can't add to its return, so a further Magic Formula gain of about 0.9% would move it into fourth.

Both benchmarks rose, and the alpha picture split along the line between active and empty screens. The S&P 500's cumulative return climbed to +15.19% from +13.88%, and the NASDAQ's to +20.57% from +19.80%. All three active screens outpaced both indexes this period, so their alpha improved against both. CANSLIM Rocket's S&P 500 alpha widened to +1.63% from +1.41%, and its NASDAQ alpha tightened to −3.75% from −4.51%. Magic Formula moved to −9.03%/−14.41% from −10.38%/−16.30%, and Lynch to −12.12%/−17.50% from −12.31%/−18.23%. Each of the four empty screens lost alpha equal to the benchmarks' gain: 1.31 points against the S&P 500 and 0.77 against the NASDAQ. Quality Growth's alpha slipped to +11.83% against the S&P 500 and +6.45% against the NASDAQ, from +13.14% and +7.22%, and it remains the only screen with positive cumulative alpha against both. Schloss Dividend moved to −7.26%/−12.64% from −5.95%/−11.87%, Burry Value Screen to −8.10%/−13.48% from −6.79%/−12.71%, and Piotroski F-Score to −31.64%/−37.02% from −30.33%/−36.25%.

Overlap: Still Two Stocks

The October 10 snapshot again shows just two stocks in two or more screens, the same pair as on October 3. OGC is held by Lynch and Magic Formula, and PAAS by Lynch and CANSLIM Rocket. MU, now held only by Lynch, and PAY, entering only CANSLIM Rocket, create no new pairings.

PAAS S3 · Lynch  |  S8 · CANSLIM Rocket

Both overlap names turned positive after falling in Period 25. OGC gained +1.81%, adding to both Lynch and Magic Formula, and PAAS rose +1.67% after two straight declines, adding to both Lynch and CANSLIM Rocket.

What Period 26 Tells You

One position can carry an equal-weighted screen. INTR made up about 5% of CANSLIM Rocket's book and contributed about 2.01 points, more than the screen's whole +1.33% result. A screen's period return can hide how few of its names actually did the work.

An empty screen falls behind in a rising market. Burry Value Screen, Schloss Dividend, Piotroski F-Score, and Quality Growth lost nothing in absolute terms this week, yet each lost 1.31 points of alpha against the S&P 500. Sitting in cash costs nothing in a flat or falling week, but it costs ground when the market climbs.

A broad win is sturdier than a narrow one. Magic Formula and Lynch both posted gains with most of their names rising: ten of twelve and eleven of sixteen. CANSLIM Rocket posted a similar return with eight of nineteen retained names falling. The headline numbers were close, but they rested on very different foundations.

Short stays still count. ROAD entered CANSLIM Rocket for this period and left at the very next snapshot. Under the journal's exit rule, its one-week stint is recorded as a fee and nothing else. Turnover like this is easy to overlook, but it is part of what a screen costs to follow.
